Avid is...annoying. It's really similar to Final Cut, but less user friendly. For example, you know how sometimes on FC you can accidentally overwrite a couple frames with another clip, but for the most part, it'll snap the two together? Avid won't, and there's no easy way to close gaps, either. Perhaps I'm spoiled, but c'mon! That's just weak. Avid's the industry standard, and people can be snobs about it, so it wouldn't hurt to familiarize yourself with the program. For your own projects, however, I'd stick with FC.
